People were calling me all sorts of nasty things. Things that would forever stain my mind.

I’d given my trust to a demon, and this was what I got.

My mother had always told me I should stay away from monsters. She hated them. My father had died at one’s hands, giving her a reason to hate every single creature. Still, I had always found them fascinating.

I had always wished the world could see them for what they were. Fascinating, beautiful, real. In my mind, I’d never seen them as the dark things humans whispered about in the night. I’d always imagined that they were just like us— just with different bodies.

But now I was seeing them for what they were. Monsters.

Monsters that didn’t care about humans and would use them any way they pleased.

Meduso had used me. He had toyed with me. I had been nothing more than a pet to him. A new plaything that wouldn’t break the first time he tried it.

I fumed as I walked up the sidewalk to my apartment, trying to control my breaths. My footsteps slowed until I stopped, my stomach twisting.

Right. He had moved everything already.

Terminated my lease.

All of my belongings were at his house.

Holy shit.

“Fuck,” I whispered. “Fuck. I’m homeless now. Fuck.”

Tears filled my eyes, anger flashing through me.

I was so fucking stupid. In just over 24 hours, my entire life had been turned upside down.

The screech of tires had me turning around. A black car suddenly halted on the street next to me, the doors swinging open. Three creatures poured out, and I stumbled back.

Their eyes were on me.

“Get him. Keep him from Meduso,” one of them snarled, his fangs shining with a wolfish grin.

“What the fuck?” I whispered, turning to run. Instead, I stumbled straight into another human, one who hit the ground and then started screaming at me.

I took off running, not even bothering to apologize.

I heard their steps. Their yells.

Keep him from Meduso.

They weren’t his servants?

Claws raked down my back, and I was kicked to the ground, a massive furry body tackling me. I let out a scream but was pinned into wet concrete, an enormous hand gripping me.

I let out a whimper, and then the massive body was torn off me.

Smooth hands yanked me to standing, and I looked up to see Rocky, his expression one of chiseled stone.
